Con l’espressione “Terra dei Fuochi” si intende un’area compresa tra i Regi Lagni, Lo Uttaro, Masseria del Pozzo-Schiavi (nel Giuglianese) ed il quartiere di Pianura della città di Napoli. Si tratta di un’area di circa 3 milioni di metri quadri che fu scoperta già intorno alla fine degli anni Ottanta in seguito a diverse denunce prodotte da Angelo Genovese, il quale ha anticipato di circa dieci anni le successive rivelazioni di Carmine Schiavone. Con il passare del tempo sono state svolte diverse indagini e progetti che hanno portato alla luce la verità sul territorio. Oggi, nonostante siano passati numerosi anni, non è semplice conoscere le aree contaminate con precisione e proprio per questo motivo sembra giungere una svolta grazie alla tecnologia. Nasce infatti a Marigliano, in provincia di Napoli, un nuovo sistema di monitoraggio che grazie ad un drone ad infrarossi, un sofisticato algoritmo e all’intelligenza artificiale, finora ha mappato il 55% della cosiddetta Terra dei Fuochi. Grazie a questo velivolo che è dotato di una particolare telecamera con un sofisticato algoritmo sarà possibile analizzare numerosi dati raccolti dall’occhio elettronico. Il computer del drone è in grado di rilevare anomalie termiche, cioè dove è altamente probabile che siano stati interrati dei rifiuti e per tale ragione agisce al calare della luce. Qualora rilevasse un’anomalia sarà immediatamente innescato l’avvio degli scavi per rimuovere la massa velenosa. “Proprio grazie a questo innovativo e forse unico sistema – spiega il maggiore Emiliano Nacar, comandante della Polizia Locale di Marigliano, è stato possibile mettere a segno il sequestro di un’area ampia ben due km, nei Regi Lagni, nel comune di Tufino, nel Napoletano, precisamente nel letto del corso d’acqua, dove sono stati trovati fusti interrati. Altri rifiuti, stipati a una profondità di 200 metri, sono stati scoperti in due discariche. L’operazione, eseguita su incarico dalla Prefettura, ha consentito quello che riteniamo sia stato il sequestro ambientale più grande eseguito in Campania, pari a 70mila metri quadrati di terreno”. Al momento, grazie a questo sistema, studiano e brevettato insieme con l’Agenzia di Sviluppo Area Nolana, è stato mappato il 55% della Terra dei Fuochi. Il sistema è stato usato anche per rilevare la presenza di armi a Scampia e in altri quartieri ad alta infiltrazione criminale della città di Napoli.
