Alla base di ogni comportamento disfunzionale o adattivo dell’individuo vi è un concetto cardine: la genitorialità. La genitorialità consiste nel processo di sostegno dello sviluppo fisico, emotivo e sociale del bambino dall’infanzia al raggiungimento dell’età adulta. Imparare ad essere genitori, adattandosi alle richieste dell’infante che mutano costantemente nelle varie fasi di sviluppo, consiste in un’espressione d’arte ed in quanto tale non dev’essere perfetta, dev’essere unica. Cercare di fornire un’educazione impeccabile al proprio figlio è un’utopia, ciò che invece è essenziale è far emergere la sua unicità, insegnargli l’importanza della diversità e del fallimento. L’errore più grande e purtroppo anche più frequente è la comparazione, paragonarlo a ciò che fanno gli altri, insegnandogli a fare la stessa cosa. Questo approccio genitoriale porta alla soppressione del talento del bambino e ad un’omologazione ad una maggioranza che non gli appartiene. Per educare ci vuole coraggio, il coraggio di mettersi in discussione. Donald Winnicott, pediatra e psicoanalista inglese, al quale si devono numerose conoscenze sullo sviluppo nei primi mesi di vita del bambino e del rapporto speciale che lo lega alla madre, introdusse il concetto di madre sufficientemente buona. Una madre sufficientemente buona è colei che è in grado di introdurre il bambino al mondo esterno a piccole dosi, creando un ambiente di contenimento (holding) in cui il bambino si sente al sicuro e protetto senza sapere di essere protetto. Winnicott ha avuto il merito di liberare la figura materna dall’incombenza del dover essere perfetta e infallibile. Non esiste un modello educativo indiscusso, perfetto ed universale, non esistono genitori che non incombono in errori durante l’educazione dei propri figli, ciò che conta è la qualità del rapporto, che non è quantità. La genitorialità è molto più dell’essere genitori, essa è rappresenta da diverse funzioni che coinvolgono sia aspetti individuali che relazionali alla base di un percorso educativo dinamico ed evolutivo, che segue la crescita del bambino. Un modo per comprendere la complessità di ciò che definiamo genitorialità è analizzare le sue funzioni o meglio i suoi modi di esprimersi. Possiamo suddividere una funzione protettiva, affettiva, regolativa, normativa, predittiva, rappresentativa, significante, fantasmatica, proiettiva, differenziale, triadica, transgenerazionale. Crescere un figlio significa avventurarsi in un territorio inesplorato, con eventi imprevedibili e in cui non sempre si sa come comportarsi. A tal motivo sono presenti appositi percorsi di sostegno e di educazione alla genitorialità, per permettere alla coppia o al genitore unico di avere un ottimo rapporto con i figli dal punto di vista emotivo, affettivo, relazionale e comunicativo. Questo è particolarmente importante nelle fasi di sviluppo del bambino, ma anche in presenza di separazioni o divorzi, adolescenza e comportamenti problematici. L’educazione alla genitorialità è fondamentale, bisogna mettersi in discussione e richiedere, quando necessario, aiuto nel processo educativo; i figli attraverso atteggiamenti e comportamenti disadattivi esprimono un disagio, che se non adeguatamente riconosciuto e curato può portare a conseguenze dannose che si ripercuoteranno sul suo sviluppo e sull’intero sistema familiare. Il bambino assorbe dall’adulto che lo guida, ma a volte è l’adulto a dover essere guidato.
